Today’s art museums value names over paintings! Do you agree?
An art museum by definition is a building or space for the exhibition of art, normally visual art. Art museums have been doing a great job for years, but somehow most of todays museums only desire after art pieces of dead artist. Why do most of art museums only appreciate the works of dead artists? When I asked this question to the art presenter at Chicago Art Museum, her answer was uncertain. She was not sure what to say, so she simply smiled and asked, “Are you an artist?” I quickly replied, “Yes, I am.” She replied, “Someday this building may exhibit your art.” But when?, I thought. “May” could be after a few hundred years and it only will happen if my paintings survive those all years.
Reality is, today’s museums are only after names, not paintings. Art administrators at museums are behind the times when it comes to appreciating works of art. Technically speaking, they are only backward compatible. Well, let them stay where they are; we as artists will continue channel our creativity and hopefully, one day, our work will speak for itself.
That’s all for today! Happy painting 🙂
